VGC W/ Fats: 1st Place PC Team Report

Hello Hat Lovers!

Due to lack of major events we haven’t had much to write about, so I’m going to share the team I used to win a PC yesterday. While I made the team from scratch it ended up being a very standard looking team.

Nevertheless! We here at VGC w/Hats don’t turn down an opportunity to make a good pun.

Song and Dance: Top 16 Melbourne Challenge Report

G’day hat lovers!

I recently participated in an online grassroots tournament hosted by Sam Pandelis, with a $1500 cash prize for the winner to go to the Melbourne International. I managed to top cut, and while there was no prize for my finish, I still felt it was worth writing about.

This team of course, was taken from San Jose regional runner up Enosh, who I owe a big thank you for helping me and letting me use his team. I ended up changing a lot of details he had from San Jose, but the team remained fundamentally the same, and much of the changes I made were simply some personal preferences. Yejiang (@Yejiang_CHN) also topped the BattleSpot ladder with a similar structure, and I took some inspiration from watching some of his replays as well.

In other words: I am a team thief but I combined different ideas from different people to make it look a little less obvious that I am a team thief. I am a big fan of the team because I think its suits my playstyle well, and after playing 2016, I am so so so glad to again be able to use a team that has no attacks with imperfect accuracy (well, I had Guillotine, but that move is used far differently from the others)

VGC 2017 Early Metagame Impressions

Hello Hat Lovers!

I noticed that our viewership has spiked since Sun & Moon came out despite a lack of content. I figured I’d write about my initial thoughts on the format and my opinions on some of the Pokemon in the format.

Battle Spot Doubles Teams using Alola Pokedex

Hello Hat Lovers!

By the time this is posted Pokemon Sun & Moon should be close to release. I’ve been longing for a format to experiment in. VGC 2016 is still the official format and I’m pretty much done with it. VGC 2015 is still enjoyable but I just can’t bring myself to team-build in the format.

In an attempt to satiate our desire to play competitive doubles and get a leg up on the format Kelvin, Hayden and I haveĀ been playing doubles with only Pokemon found in the Alola Pokedex and no mega stones. Obviously this format is far cry from VGC 2017. While I expect we won’t have move tutors in Sun/Moon we still used them in this format. We did ban Dark Void, as it wouldn’t be available until January and I expected it to get restricted to Darkrai in generation 7 (which ended up happening).

Here are the strongest teams we came up with:

RayDon is the Truth-84th Place Worlds Team Report

Hello hat lovers!

I’m Demitri, or kingdjk. I had an incredibly mediocre season for most of 2016, but at Worlds, I finally managed to accomplish something by making it through day one with a 6-1 record. I struggled finding a team that worked for me throughout the majority of 2016 but I think the team that I used at Worlds was finally what I wanted from a team this year.
